Hello friends! November is finally here and that can only mean only one thing, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays not because of all the great food I will eat but because it is a very unique holiday. We don’t celebrate on this day a battle or anyone’s birthday or anniversary on this day. It is simply a day set aside to express our nations thanks to our nation’s God!
With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has been truly blessed by God. Our forefathers had "a boundless faith in God." This almost sounds strange today in a time when powerful forces are at work in our nation to strip us of every reminder that the very foundation of our nation was built upon the conviction that we are "One Nation, Under God."
Thanksgiving is a day when we as a nation stops, reflects and give thanks to God for all of the blessings are Heavenly Father has bestowed on us. As a Christian this should be our attitude everyday not just on Thanksgiving Day, but every day we should have a grateful heart and give thanks to God. I truly wish that all of us had the spirit of Thanksgiving all year long!
I humbly believe that 1 Thess.5:16-18 is a good reminder for us to think about with Thanksgiving being only a few weeks away. Here is what it says:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
The Apostle Paul is encouraging us in verse 16, to always be joyful. And here is the reason, I humbly believe why you and I should be joyful. We serve a God who walks along- side us during our pain. We serve a God who does all things for our good. We serve a God who provides all of our needs. We serve a God who comforts us in all of our troubles. Our God is our protector in our times of trouble. He is our healer and Savior. This is why we should be joyful.
Wednesday Night Bible will meet the first two Wednesdays in November from 6:15-7:15pm in the fellowship hall. We are studying 2 Corinthians. I hope you and your family will be able to join us. We always have great in-depth discussion and discuss practical ways to apply the Bible to our daily lives.
I hope you and your family will be able to join us on Saturday, November 4th for our Ham and Egg Supper. Dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall from 5-7 p.m. Adult’s will be charged $8.00 dollars a plate and children will be charged $5.00 a plate. All proceeds from the supper will go towards the Men’s Fellowship Ministry at Long’s Chapel Church and we would greatly appreciate your support. Also the ladies of our church are having a bake sale during the Ham and Egg Supper. There will be a wide assortment of desserts to choose from and I promise what you choose will taste delicious. All proceeds from the bake sale will support the Ladies Ministry.
